The HSCA depends on local schools and sponsors to act as hosts and tournament staff. We will organize and run chess contests in cooperation with them, or in many cases, for them. We host around six events per year. We normally aim for a date in late September, mid October, early November and sometimes early December. In late January, Klein hosts it‘s annual mid-winter event and in mid February, the region V scholastic contest is held. The HSCA will then host two Spring events in late March, April or May, but we will try to avoid conflict with major national and state contests and will not schedule a contest for the Easter weekend. The last event of the year may become the HSCA City Championships, or a team event.
We also seek to encourage organizers to provide additional activity and physical play space for elementary students, who are becoming a very important part of our organization.
In the actual tournament, we try to have small sections with a minimum of 25% trophies and medals for positive scores.
It is VERY important that as many coaches and sponsors as possible participate in the administration and operation of out events… everyone has a part to play is a successful tournament.
